How to have a safe customer conversation during lockdown and beyond

Covid has brought about many changes to the workplace, one of these being the way we interact with customers. Whilst it is still important to engage with customers, safety must now be the top priority. It is crucial to have measures in place to put your staff and customers at ease. As experienced office designers we thought we'd share a few things you can do to have customer conversations that are both Covid- safe and promote your business.


Install your existing exhibition stand in a spacious area, such as a warehouse or car park, to create a brand new showroom space. Not only does this adhere to social distancing rules, but also is a creative way to showcase your brand to customers. With trade shows not taking place this year, installing your exhibition stand outside provides an opportunity to still wow potential customers with your products.


Create digital buyer guides to replace in-person sales pitches. Videoing your sales pitch for customers can be very effective as they can watch them again and again. A digital buyers guide is great to help customers get a feel for the brand and the products remotely, just make sure to include all the key facts about your company. Special effects, or videos from past events that highlight your company’s strengths could also be added.

Invest in PPE and screens for your office, showroom and meeting rooms. Essential meetings with clients can still take place in the office, just make sure the space is fit for purpose! Screens are an easy way to increase safety and they should be placed anywhere that staff and customers are having a face-to-face conversation.


Similarly, roller banners and signage are very useful to display the rules around the office. This can be particularly helpful if you have a waiting protocol for arriving customers such as checking their temperature before they enter. Moreover, signage on the floor can be great to implement a one-way movement system in order to keep the 2M distance.


Get customised hygiene stations. These can help you to simultaneously stay safe and show off your brand, by representing it in a positive Covid safe way. These are especially great for reception areas or meeting rooms, and can make a great first impression on clients.


Install pop-up showrooms in any space, such as a boardroom, meeting room or a function room. This allows the flexibility of scheduling one –to –one meetings to keep things extra safe.


Adapt your existing spaces to allow for better social distancing, this can include removing furniture from showrooms, or having them entirely redesigned with social distancing in mind. Whilst it is important to engage with customers, this must now be achieved from a distance. If this can be done by moving existing furniture, great! If not, it might be time for a redesign that fits in with the current climate.
